Happy St. Patrick's Day

Having successfully beware'd the Ides of March, we have all earned a glorious celebration of the day of St. Patrick, celebrated for.....I have no idea why he's celebrated to be honest, nor do I care really. All I know is, March 17 is a day of much celebration and wearing of green and (for some reason) pinching and for many, joyous drunkenness.

So, luck of the Irish be with you (it certainly wasn't with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team this afternoon, losing to Winthrop in the first round of the NCAA tournament....I'm almost convinced it was an NCAA conspiracy to schedule it so they couldn't play on St. Patrick's Day)

indeed. St. Pat's Day is one of my favorites because it requires absolutely no introspection nor family tradition nor awkward interaction with awkward relatives. No, SPD is built for the common man - the common man that wakes up and wants to drink, but has to put on the responsible face and go to work or do whatever he does. SPD gives us all freedom to be drunk and hungover twice in the span of 18 or so hours and pretend we're all part of race of people that, frankly, isn't that great. The Irish? Pfhh! Potato famines abound, this and that, but, my god, they know to throw a holiday party! So long live the Irish! Not for their contribution to mankind (other than some fine alcohol) but for the sole fact that when they decide to have a holiday, they do it damn well.
